Ski-A-Thon Stats
The annual Ski-A-Thon is a fundraiser for the JGS PTO for student activities (Theater Artist in Residence, among others) and the PTO donates a portion of funds raised to Jackson Ski Touring Foundation who partners with the school to provide ski instruction support in Physical Education class, free after school programming, low-cost and free rentals for the ski season, and sensational grooming for the Ski-a-Thon!
Here's how it went down in 2022: total laps skied by the WHOLE SCHOOL: 576!
And in 2023: 451 Laps by the WHOLE SCHOOL!
And in 2024: $4,185 raised to the PTO, $1000 donated to Jackson Ski Touring, 400 km skied by JGS students!

To JGS Families:
The ski-a-thon is ON!
Monday, March 3 (Rain Date is Monday, March 1.)
The ski-a-thon is an annual PTO fundraiser put on in collaboration with the school. It is the culmination of our Nordic Skiing opportunities within JGS Physical Education classes and afterschool programs hosted by Jackson Ski Touring Foundation (JXN XC.) Students gather pledges for the number of laps they can ski during the event. It’s the biggest PTO fundraiser of the year and every pledge counts!
● All grades will ski from approximately 1:00 to 2:45 during the school day on the 1K loop just downhill from Jackson Ski Touring Center (right side)
● Students may continue to ski after school until 4pm when the event ends.
● Students will be dismissed and picked up at the ski course. Please check out your skier with the JGS staffer with the clipboard. The bus will pick up bus riders here, too, at the usual dismissal time.
A volunteer list is also being put together. Skiers and non-skiers welcome! Contact Kathy Byrne k_byrne@sau9.org. In the meantime, take the attached pledge sheet to help your JGS skier start gathering pledges.
SNACKS! Snacks are a big part of Ski A Thon and each class contributes. Here’s the list. If you have children in more than one class, just pick one.
K12- Cut up fruit (oranges, grapes, watermelon…)
3.4 - Brownies or cookies, about a dozen. NO NUTS, PLEASE!
5.6 - Salty Snacks (pretzels, crackers and cheese are a hit)
Drop off snacks at the trail head in the Ski Touring parking lot - right hand side just where the golf fence ends on the day of the event. Drop off skis and poles at the WCC. Send your skier in with their warm layers and ski boots!

We need to know how your skier is getting home after the Ski a Thon!
If you have not yet done so, please complete this form to let us know your skier’s dismissal plans for the Ski-A-Thon on Monday, March 3. A paper version is coming home in your child's backpack, as well. A response to either form of communication is most appreciated. Responses are needed ASAP. Thank you - it really helps with our organizing to know your child's dismissal plans!
Also regarding the Ski A Thon - a colorful half sheet went home yesterday with your child assigning snacks for skiers by grade. A recap, here:
We Need YOU to Make Ski-a-thon 2025 a Success!
We are so excited to return to an all-school ski-a-thon this year after last year’s separate cohort skis. This year the whole school will be cross-country (Nordic) skiing together on Monday, March 3rd (rain date March 10) starting after lunch until the end of the school day. Students interested in skiing longer can continue skiing laps until 4pm. Use the linked form, above, or the paper form coming home in your child's backpack, to let the office know your child's dismissal plans.
Snacks are an important and exciting part of the Ski A Thon tradition! We need everyone’s help in fueling the snack station. We are asking families to send the following based on your student's classroom - 1 snack per family!
See snack assignments to the left!
Please drop off all snacks at the trail head of the ski course - right hand side of ski touring center, lower parking lot at the end of the golf fence. Thank you!
No drinks needed – just send your skier to school on Monday the 3rd with
a water bottle labeled with their name!
Nordic skis can be dropped off at JGS before 9 AM.
Please help your skier choose layers to dress for an afternoon of cross country skiing.
Ski-a-thon is so much fun and we need adults to volunteer and to cheer!
JGS is so excited to be holding ski-a-thon this year. But it won’t be a success without YOU! There are jobs for all schedules. We need help making signs for skiers, providing snacks, setting up, helping during the event, and cleaning up.
Volunteer sign up forms coming home soon!
