Threats to Turtles

Turtles have been around for more than 110 million years. That's so old they lived alongside the dinosaurs. But climate change could be an end to their time on earth. Other problems include dams that obstruct rivers and hunters that kill millions of turtles for their meat, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission.

Talking Turtles

Turtles have also been found to communicate even before they hatch. Isn't that crazy?! They use vocal communication to speak to each other. Turtles have been found to make a variety of sounds like clicks, croaks, crackles, chirps, purrs, and grunts. Also some species of turtles have been found to use a special language called  nonvocal communication, according to Smithsonian Magazine.

Turtle Predators

There are a lot of predators to the South American River Turtle. Humans and other animals have been hunting the species for a while and that's a reason why they could go extinct in future. Also Black Vultures have also been a big part of the species decline because the birds sometimes eat the turtle's eggs. Raccoons also have an impact on the baby turtles life span because they will also eat their eggs, according to the Sea Turtle Conservatory.
