River & Harry take sides in the controversial decision by the College Football Playoffs to not include the undefeated Florida State Seminoles from the playoffs

On a Sunday afternoon, ESPN released the college football playoff bracket. A thirteen member committee decides which 4 teams are the best in the country, and this year in the college football playoffs there was a controversy about whether Florida State should have made the playoffs. Florida State was undefeated but lost their star quarterback Jordan Travis which hurt their team. They did everything they could to make the playoffs but instead, Alabama took their spot after beating Georgia who was ranked one. Some people think Florida State should have made the playoffs and some people don’t.
The 4 teams that made the playoffs are all conference champions and undefeated or 1 loss teams. The teams that made the playoffs are, the 1 seed Michigan Wolverines, (13-0), 2 seed Washington Huskies, (13-0), 3 seed Texas Longhorns, (12-1), 4 seed Alabama Crimson Tide, (12-1), and ranked 5 Florida State was also (13-0). Every team has a star quarterback that is starting except for Florida State which is on their 2nd string and that could be the reason they didn’t make the playoffs. Here are two perspectives on why Florida State should or should not have made the playoffs.
Why Florida State should have made the playoffs
Florida State were ranked number four and they kept winning. They won every game for the third time in team history. Although they don’t have their star quarterback, Jordan Travis because he broke his leg, they still could have competed for the national championship.
They have great talent and should’ve made it instead of Alabama. Alabama is a great team, but they lost to Texas who was ranked 11 at the time while on the other hand Florida State was undefeated. Their 2nd string quarterback is also most likely to start against Georgia. They have been ranked 4th until the ACC championship even though they didn’t lose. I think they deserve to make the playoffs instead of Alabama. Just because Alabama beat one good team doesn’t mean they should have made the playoffs. Florida State did exactly what they had to so that's why I think they should’ve made the playoffs.

Why Florida State should not have made the playoffs
Florida State only played 2 ranked teams in the regular season, while Alabama played 5 ranked teams. Also Alabama beat Georgia and Georgia had not lost in 3 years. Another reason Florida State doesn’t belong in the playoffs is because they barely beat Boston College who isn’t ranked.
Although they went undefeated, they had their star quarterback, Jordan Travis, who broke his leg and ended his season against North Alabama on November 18th. They were starting their third string quarterback who only threw for 50 yards against Louisville and Louisville is a 3 loss team. Also Florida State only scored 16 points against Louisville and scored 1 touchdown. If they made the playoffs it would mean that the winner of the SEC would not have made the playoffs and the SEC has better teams than the ACC. Also the best team that Florida State played was LSU, who were ranked 13, and the best team Alabama played was Georgia, who are ranked 6 right now. I think they would’ve been beaten by all the teams that made it and I think it’s right Florida State didn’t make the playoffs.
