If you think you are seeing double in St. Andrew's 5th grade class, you might be right. The class contains 4 sets of twins.
In the past 12 years, the chance of having twins has increased. The chances have increased because some scientists have made this medicine to put inside of a female to help her become pregnant. Sometimes this causes the woman to ovulate two eggs, which can cause a twin pregnancy. Christian Monden, a professor of Sociology and Demography, did a study that proved that there are more twin births now than ever before. Women are having children later and fertility treatment are becoming more widespread and popular causing more multiple births, according to The Week Junior. The number of twins on earth is at a record.
According to Everyday Health, twins run in families. The scientific explanation is that the mother has an inherited gene that causes her to hyper-ovulate, meaning she’s more likely to release multiple eggs during ovulation. This means her chance of having fraternal twins — which are produced from two separate eggs — increases.
There are two types of twins, identical and fraternal. Fraternal means that you look different than your twin, and identical means you look the same as your twin. There are two different types of twins because identical twins come from one egg and one sperm and have the same DNA. Fraternal twins come from two eggs and two sperms and are genetically unique children.
In conclusion, If you have a twin it's like you have a built-in best friend. So if you're on vacation and you have no friends, you can just play with your twin. Having a twin is nice because if something's going on then you could just talk to them and they'd understand.
