Stanleys are all the rage right now in 2024, but are they even safe? The truth is that they do have a tiny bit of lead contained in them, but it is not dangerous unless the bottom seal comes off and the vacuum insulation at the bottom of the cup is exposed to your body or the things around you. Stanley workers are reassuring people on CNN by saying, “Our manufacturing process currently employs the use of an industry standard pellet to seal the vacuum insulation at the base of our products; the sealing material includes some lead,” and “If the cup stays intact, there’s likely no lead exposure risk for consumers. But if that bottom seal comes off, all bets are off."
Many people on platforms like Tik Tok, Youtube, and Snapchat with many followers are very worried and are doing lead tests on their Stanleys. The question, ”Do Stanley's have lead?” has been going viral and is a pressing topic. NBC says, “Stanley’s website discloses that its sealing material does include some lead. And Stanley isn’t alone—many similarly designed flasks and tumblers are manufactured the same way using lead solder.” On their website, Stanley tells their customers, “Rest assured that no lead is present on the surface of any Stanley product that comes into contact with the consumer nor the contents of the product.”
Health also tells us “Though lead is a naturally occurring element, it can be toxic to humans and animals. There is no safe amount of lead exposure, and children are especially vulnerable to the health effects of lead, since they absorb more.” This tells us that you should test your Stanley yourself to make sure you are safe.
You should test your Stanley before you throw it away or get too worried. Finally, after doing a lead test ourselves we have concluded that Stanley's that do in fact have the bottom vacuum seal broken off can be very dangerous if the lead gets onto your hands or is consumed.
