Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb 24, 2022. Russia invaded Ukraine because Ukraine used to be part of a group called the USSR, and Russia was the main country leading it. Now Russian leader Vladimir Putin thinks that they own Ukraine even though Russia has no claim to Ukrainian land. Ukraine wants to join a group called NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization). NATO is a group of countries that formed together after World War 2 so something like that would not happen again. The whole war started because Russia didn’t want Ukraine to join NATO.
Vladimir Putin is the leader of Russia. He is saying that the Ukrainians are Nazi’s to get away with attaking Ukraine. The Conversation reports, ”Meanwhile, the Russian economy is increasingly mobilized for war, and the government has been able to obtain some military resources from abroad, circumventing western sanctions. All of this means that Russia is, relative to Ukraine, in an increasingly strong position as the war enters its third year.”
As a result of this war currently going on, living conditions are not easy. One of the biggest impacts on people is food insecurity. Around 11 million people in Ukraine are going through food insecurity. Food insecurity is when a family as little as one person to a full family can’t find enough food. This can be caused by war, a country in poverty, or a family in poverty. Many homes have been destroyed in battle leaving people homeless. Valuables such as homes and cars have been destroyed and damaged.
Another impact the war in Ukraine has on people is that no one can live a normal day. From getting an air strike in their city to not being able to have food on the table.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, life in Ukraine has not been the same as it was before. Russia’s invasion has had not only a huge impact on people in Ukraine, but also people around the world. Until Russia takes over Ukraine or Ukraine takes back their land, we can expect more disruption to the daily lives of those in Ukraine.
