Stop Cutting Down Trees!

Deforestation is the purposeful clearing of forested land. Tree loss negatively affects humans, wildlife, and even the climate.

By Adaire M.

Have you ever written or drawn on a piece of paper? Well did you know that paper comes from trees and about 2.47 million trees are cut down every day? People should stop cutting down trees because they produce oxygen while they absorb carbon dioxide. They are also a habitat for animals, and they prevent soil erosion. Now that so many people are cutting down trees, it is affecting our climate because there is too much carbon dioxide in the air.

According to the journal Nature, “Trees are a crucial part of the carbon cycle, a global process in which carbon dioxide constantly circulates through the atmosphere into organisms and back again.” Without trees humans would die because trees produce oxygen that we breathe in every day. Trees also clean the air. For example, trees trap the air on their bark and leaves and filter it. So not only do trees produce oxygen but they also filter it!

 Forests are a source of food and shelter for animals and when people cut down trees, animals can be at risk of being hunted down or die of starvation. For example, sloths are one of many animals that are on the tips of being extinct. Sloths are extremely dependent on the health of trees, as they solely rely on them for shelter and food.

Lastly, people should stop cutting down trees to help prevent soil erosion. Droplets of rain water gain momentum as they fall which provides enough force to move dirt when they reach the ground. This is soil erosion. But the root systems of many trees extend out into the surrounding soil holding the soil in place even when it rains. This is another reason why trees are important because they prevent soil erosions and even flooding.

In conclusion, people should stop cutting down because they help animals, people, and our environment. So help save our forests and stop cutting down trees!

Trees

By Joyce Kilmer

I think that I shall never see

A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest

Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,

And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in Summer wear

A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;

Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,

But only God can make a tree.
