As our society is getting bigger, natural spaces are getting smaller, wildlife numbers are shrinking, and species are still endangered or going extinct. Endangered animals are animals that have a very small population and are in danger of going extinct. Lots of organizations help raise awareness of endangered animals or try to help reinstate the population. It is important to know about endangered animals so you can help keep their populations safe.

One way to know if an animal is endangered is looking on the endangered animals list. According to The World Wildlife Foundation, one critically endangered species is the mountain gorilla. ”Global numbers of critically endangered mountain gorillas have risen above 1,000,” according to the latest data from WWF. Mountain gorilla population has risen from previous years, but if people kill them, their population will decrease again. Their population could get so low that they could go extinct. One way you can help endangered animals is donating to causes that help reinstate their population.

Gorillas are not the only endangered species with very little numbers. Earth.org says there are lots of other animals whose populations go below a thousand: ”the amur leopard…has only around 92 individuals left in their natural range… They are at risk of habitat loss due to natural and man-made fires.… The vaquita has been classified as critically endangered by the IUCN since 1996 and experts say there may only be about 10 individuals left.” Lots of animal populations are dipping below the hundreds due to human expansion and climate change, giving the animals less prey and less room to expand.

It is very important to know about the problem of animal endangerment. If no one cared about this problem, many animals would have already gone extinct. You need to be informed of the problem of endangered animals. You can donate to causes to help save their population and to help save their species.
