If you search “what bad things are happening in the world?” on any browser, poverty is one of the top things shown. It is described by Dictionary.com as “the state or condition of having little or no money, goods, or means of support; condition of being poor.” Millions of people and families have to suffer from poverty every year.
According to World Vision, poverty can be caused by “Discrimination based on gender or ethnicity, poor governance, conflict, exploitation, and domestic violence…” This evidence proves that poverty is not chosen randomly. Most people think that poverty is only one thing, however, that is not the case. Poverty can be categorized into two groups: extreme poverty and moderate poverty. Moderate poverty has a population of “about 26% of the global population, or about 1.3 billion people…”and can be described as “living on between $1.90 and $3.20 per day.” Extreme poverty has a population of “approximately 9.2% of the global population, or about 700 million people…” and can be described as “...living on less than $1.90 per day.”
Although poverty sounds like an impossible problem, there are some things that people can do. According to Concern Worldwide US, “Adults can complete secondary education, which could cut the global poverty rate by more than half. Education develops skills and abilities, corrects some of the imbalances that come out of marginalization, and decreases both risk and vulnerability.” According to Inspire My Kids, we can volunteer, protest, donate, or start a food drive at school. Poverty can be eradicated if citizens work together to solve this problem!
