Assistant Superintendent Jennie Flaa provided the board with this update on curriculum and instruction.
The Texas Education Agency has taken feedback provided by previous Reading Academy participants as well as school district leaders to make changes to the administration of the Texas Reading Academy. These changes will begin with the upcoming June cohort. Sanger ISD will have six participants in this cohort of the Texas Reading Academy. These participants are teachers in grades K -3 who have not previously completed the required academy. They will travel to ESC 11 in White Settlement to complete their Science of Teaching Reading training. This training will comprise 7-10 days of instruction in foundational reading skills throughout the 2024-2025 school year. The number of days a participant must attend training depends on his or her certification type. Those teachers certified in the Science of Teaching Reading will only be required to participate in 7 training days. As these teachers progress through the Reading Academy, their assigned cohort leader will visit each of their classrooms four times throughout the year to provide explicit instructional coaching to help them implement their newly learned skills. Participants will receive feedback to ensure their instruction is done with fidelity in keeping with the goals of the Texas Reading Academy.
The Curriculum and Instruction department at Sanger ISD recently organized meetings on each campus in the final two weeks of the school year. They aimed to introduce teachers to the Sanger ISD Lesson Structure and Team Sanger Professional Development Plan. During these discussions, teachers were reassured that the practices outlined in these plans are consistent with what they already incorporate into their teaching. The overarching aim is to establish a cohesive language and approach to education across all grade levels, from pre-K to 12th grade. This lesson structure is built upon well-established teaching methodologies, providing a solid foundation for effective instruction.
Presented by Assistant Superintendant Jennie Flaa.
Softball finished the season by going to State in Austin! We are super proud of them and everything they accomplished. The support from Sanger ISD and the community was amazing! Coach Toby Kloewer and Leala Kloewer were selected by TGCA to be All-Star Coach and All-Star Player.
Champions Camps (Strength and Conditioning Camps) for boys and girls have been going great. Over 125 athletes are participating in both programs, and it's been exciting to watch their growth.
Seven-on-seven football, boys' and girls' basketball summer leagues, and volleyball summer leagues are all taking place throughout the month of June. Summer camps are in full swing, and skills training every day has been very beneficial.
We haven't stopped since school let out! Our coaches have been working so hard for our athletes.
Project Manager Mr. Kelly Teems provided his monthly update to the board on the construction progress for the bond projects.
New Sanger High School & Field House:
The first deliveries of the building's steel have arrived, and a new, fenced-in temporary lay-down area for those materials is in the stadium lot. That lot will be cleared by August 1.
They are preparing to saw-cut through a portion of the stadium lot to lay in the new sewer line for the new field house. It will tie into the existing line at the current high school. That work will also be completed before August 1 so that the stadium lot can be cleared.
The first delivery for the door frame has arrived.
CMU work at areas G and J continues, and they will move into areas E/F when that slab gets poured.
The plumbing for the last two areas, E and F, is complete, and we are trying to get those slabs poured, but the rain keeps setting us back.
Plumbers will move to the new field house location next as soon as the weather cooperates.
The stormwater system is almost complete; just a couple of junction boxes still need to be inspected.
The crane is on-site, and the crane pad is ready for the structural steel to start going up.
Due to all the rain, we have had 15 weather days in the last six weeks. As soon as the weather gets drier, the subcontractors will work 60-hour weeks to make up for lost time, putting us back on schedule.
Agricultural Science Center:
The building's steel frame is complete, and we will start the sheet metal roof and outer skin by the end of the week.
When the roof is complete, they will paint the CMU walls and begin the overhead plumbing, fire suppression lines, radiant heating, lighting, fire alarm system, cameras, and restroom fixtures.
FF&E items (animal pens, office furniture, storage lockers, etc.) will be delivered by mid-July.
The final items will be the fire lane, Parking, and ADA sidewalk.
We are requesting an RFI (request for information detailed engineered specs) for the cattle guard at the main entrance.
The district will need to decide on the type of fencing. That was not included in the project's scope, as the ISD will investigate on its own.
Clear Creek Elementary: Final Completion set for July 26
We are putting the finishing touches on the new storefront/security vestibule at the main entrance with the new access control.
The existing ramp for the cafeteria stage will be demolished. The orientation will be reversed so that ADA access to the stage from the cafeteria floor will be possible without having to go through the hallway.
Cafeteria expansion is well underway. Demolition of the ceilings and floors is complete, and they are placing a temporary support beam in so that they can remove the existing load-bearing wall where the cafeteria will extend into the current kitchen space.
Installing new windows in the new cafeteria expansion vestibule area.
Demolition of the current kitchen is ongoing.
New kitchen appliances are onsite. They are about to open up the existing wall between the new kitchen and the new cafeteria expansion area (old/existing kitchen). That wall used to be the north-end exterior wall.
They are installing all the low-voltage wiring for the fire alarm system, TV/AV, Intercom/speaker systems, and access control in the new classroom addition and storm shelter area.
Still have landscaping and fencing work to complete as well as installing the new fire water storage tank
Still have the finishing touches on the canopies at both ends of the building.
The fire lane is complete with painted fire lane curbs. Need to add parking spaces to the east side of the new addition.
In keeping with normal board meeting affairs, the board heard financial and utility reports from CFO Monica Herren and an HR update from Deputy Superintendent Leann Loyless.
