Chief Picha reviewed the changes in arrival and dismissal procedures at CTE for the new school year. TXDOT will be closing the turn in onto Keaton from 455.
Our recurring 3 year safety audits were conducted this year by Region 10 Service Center
Some of the items they wanted to see changed included consistent do not prop door signage across the district, peep holes on exterior doors that did not feature windows, de-escalation training for office staff and all Sanger ISD Police Officers, updated numbering for exterior doors on all facilities, revision of reunification/relocation plans, evacuation plans for the stadium and other non-instructional facilities.
Many of these items have already been completed. Those remaining are actively being worked on.
Project Manager Mr. Teems provided his monthly update to the board on the progress of construction for the bond projects.
Clear Creek Project:
The new collaboration space, front office space, and counselor space is cleaned up and READY for the first day of school
Piers are drilled and poured for the new kitchen
The new ceiling and LED lighting is completed in the current building
Ag Barn
The silt fence has been added to the location of the new ag barn in preparation for construction to begin.
Summer workouts went great! Everyone is excited for a new year
The Girl's Leadership Team met for the first time Monday Aug.14
This team is comprised of junior and senior athletes
Meetings are open discussion forums focused on improving our athletic programs
The Tribe Culture Circle was implemented and discussed
Boy's Leadership team will be meeting soon to collaborate with the Girl's Leadership team
The whole athletics department is putting a focus on academics, nutrition, community service, and mental health
The first football scrimmage against Ponder was a great display of teamwork. The team had an exciting atmosphere about them!
Volleyball is crushing it, with 11 games in a single week. They are working hard to prepare for district play.
Cross Country dominated their first meet with the top 4 girl runners all hailing from SHS. The boys runners also dominated their competition.
Director of Social and Emotional Learning Dr. Ann Hughes reported to the board regarding the work the administration conducted over the summer in regards to bullying and discipline on campuses.
The results of the parent/student/staff survey sent earlier in the summer were presented
We had a total of 414 respondents
What's Working Well:
4/5 students/parents reported they have a trusted adult at school
4/5 parents and teachers believe students like their school
7/10 teachers and students believe someone will listen to them
Areas for Improvement:
1/2 of students and parents believe bullying is a problem at school
1/3 individuals feel unsafe at school
Four parent forums were conducted over the summer along with student focus groups
From these meetings we were able to discern our areas most in need of improvement
A letter to parents was sent detailing the changes and enhancements to our procedures.
The board discussed options to plan compliance with HB3 updates. It was determined that the district and all board members agree that our goal to comply with this mandate is to hire enough Sanger ISD Police Officers so that each campus may have an officer on site full time.
In keeping with normal board meeting affairs, the board heard financial reports from CFO Monica Herren and a teaching and learning update from Assistant Superintendent Jennie Flaa.
