School Board
Recognition Month
January is School Board Recognition Month! The theme of this year’s celebration is “Locally Elected, Community Connected”, which emphasizes the strong bond between school trustees and our community. These elected board members work tirelessly without any compensation and possess a deep understanding of the needs and goals of our community’s children and families. They lead our district by providing oversight and setting objectives to improve Sanger ISD. Each board member was presented with a bin full of goodies in appreciation of their dedication and hard work.
These outstanding Cross Country Runners were honored at the Sanger ISD School Board meeting last night! Coaches Chase McMichael and Tanner Rankin talked about their teams' dedication to the sport and the sheer determination that made them successful this season. They spoke as to how proud they are of each of the athletes! The Lady Indians JV and Varsity were both district champions. Varsity went on to place 3rd in the Region and then 6th in State! Congratulations to all these athletes for a fantastic year!
Regognition of Tribal Treasures
Teachers Denise Yeatts and Margie Tisdale along with SHS student Cosme Sanchez presented information about SHS's Tribal Treasures. The STEP and Lifeskills class create custom made cards to sell to the public. Students make special occasion cards, Christmas cards, birthday cards, Valentine's cards and much more. They had treasures to share with everyone on the board.
Leann Loyless, Deputy Superintendant, reported a Safety and Security audit was performed on January 10, 2024, at the Sixth Grade Campus. She was happy to report that all doors were found to be closed, locked, and secured, and no further action was needed by the district in the way of a corrective action plan. A corrective action plan is only needed if auditors find doors unlocked or left unsecured.
Mike Picha, Chief of Sanger ISD Police, discussed the ALERRT Training(Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training) Sanger ISD Police Department is hosting this training on Saturday, Feb. 3rd, and Sunday, Feb. 4th, at Sanger High School. If you see some increased police presence at the high school on those days, don’t be alarmed. The training is for police agencies around the area. This training allows officers to hone their skills and ensure the safety of our school community. There will be numerous police agency vehicles parked at the high school during training and no outside personnel will be allowed in training areas. The school will not be closed completely to staff, but access will be limited to certain areas. Since this is a weekend training, there will be no impact to the regular school day.
Coach Rogers and Coach Sykes gave a presentation to the board highlighting each of the sports in the district. They discussed the importance of grades and how they affect an athlete's eligibility to play. They also went over statistics on GPAs and percentages of passing vs failing athlete numbers. They are very excited about Varsity Tutors which will help those struggling student athletes. They will continue to push a tutorial program with follow-up from the coaches. Some upcoming events are: February 13th is School Board Appreciation Night for Lady Indians Softball where Dr. Hunter will throw out the first pitch, and February 19th is Baseball School Board Appreciation Night.
Project Manager Mr. Kelly Teems provided his monthly update to the board on the progress of construction for the bond projects.
