AP Chemistry

Prerequisite: Honors Chemistry or Chemistry with a teacher recommendation

Course Description

  • The AP Chemistry course provides students with a college-level foundation to support future advanced coursework in chemistry or any related science. Students cultivate their understanding of chemistry through inquiry-based investigations, as they explore content such as: atomic structure, intermolecular forces and bonding, chemical reactions, kinetics, thermodynamics, and equilibrium. The AP Chemistry course is designed to be the equivalent of a general chemistry course usually taken during the first college year. Students may receive college chemistry credit by passing the AP Exam in May.

Students spend a variable amount of time in lab activities, working to understand advanced chemistry concepts while practicing AP-style MC and Free Response Questions throughout the academic year to prepare for the AP Exam.

Ultimately, the goal of this course is to provide students with essential tools to succeed in collegiate level medical, science and/or engineering majors.
