Course Description

  • MICROBIOLOGY is the scientific study of MICROORGANISMS. This one semester course will be an in depth study of .

  • The course will begin with an introduction to the METHODS OF MICROBIOLOGY, including the history of the discipline and common lab techniques.

  • The course will continue with an in-depth exploration MICROBIAL VARIETY and MICROBIAL DISEASE.

This is a science course, and that means LABS!

Students will use MICROSCOPES often, they will CULTURE bacteria and protists, and they will EXPERIMENT on bacterial resistance.

This course will often address themes of CELL BIOLOGY and EVOLUTION.

How do microbes differ among groups? What structures and adaptations allow them to be successful?

What is the germ theory of disease? How did complex microbes evolve from simple ones?
