Course Description:
This course is intended for students who are seriously interested in careers in medicine, dentistry, optometry, nursing, laboratory technology, physical therapy, and other allied health fields. It is a survey of human biology with an emphasis on relating structure to function. Introductory units develop background in biochemistry and cellular function. The remainder of the course studies the human systems beginning with tissues, skeletal, muscular, nervous, circulatory, respiratory, immune, endocrine, digestive, urinary and reproductive systems. Laboratory experiences reinforce the concepts being studied including some dissection and other investigations using modeling, physiographic and medical instrumentation.

A great companion course to consider taking is Microbiology. It is a one semester elective course that can easily be added to your schedule. If you have taken any of the PLTW Biomedical courses and have identified an interest in health science, then Anatomy and Physiology and AP Biology are both great choices. It is always a good idea to take a look at what some of the colleges that you are considering attending require as well to set yourself up for a smooth transition!
Dual Credit is available through Ivy Tech as long as the student has demonstrated College-Readiness in Reading, Writing, and Math through applicable documentation:
Standardized test scores (SAT, ACT or PSAT), PSAT: Reading 25 Writing 26 (ERW 430) Math 24.5 or
High school transcripts for those students who have completed six high school semesters and have a cumulative GPA of 2.6 (GPA documentation is not applicable to upper level math courses) or

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
