AP Physics C: Mechanics

Prerequisite: Pre-calculus/Trigonometry

Course Description

The course covers the first semester of a calculus based college physics course. Students will learn and use introductory differential and integral calculus throughout the course. All students are expected to take the AP Physics C: Mechanics exam in May.

This course is recommended for students who are considering college degrees in areas such as engineering, mathematics, and physics.

The course utilizes guided inquiry and student centered learning to foster the development of critical thinking skills. Students will explore six content areas: kinematics, Newton’s laws of motion, work, energy and power, systems of particles and linear momentum, circular motion and rotation, and oscillation and gravitation. The students will study the basic laws of each area and apply them conceptually and mathematically.
