Notes:
constellations are a group of stars that become visible according to your location and time of the year. ngc(New General Catalogue) is an astronomical catalogue of deep-sky stuff (John Lewis Emil Dreyer, 1888) messier is a set of 110 astro stuff (Charles messier), and is a collection of deep sky stuff.constellations are used for recognition of specific stars in the night sky. Used to track calendar for plant crops and harvest them. Also used for navigation and help sailors travel seas. Finding Ursa Major, you can spot Polaris using height of northern star and find your latitude(north to south). Also used for telling difference in colours, and grouping stars. Different places signify different set of constellations seen.Asterisms are patterns of stars with shapes and sizes, some are simple with few stars, some are complex with many stars. Asterisms have stars with similar brightness. Stars vary in brightness if asterisms vary too. Winter triangle formed by Sirius (1st brightest) , Betelgeuse(9th brightest) and Procyon(8th brightest), primary stars of Canis Major and minor; and Orion. It is prominent in the northern hemisphere during the winter months. The stars there are among the brightest stars in the night sky. Betelgeuse is just above alnitak, the easternmost star of the belt. Sirius can be found by following a line formed by the Belt stars to the southeast, while Procyon lies in the upper left of Sirius. Ophiuchus is opposite Orion.
reflection:
This lesson was very content heavy especially with all the numbers and starry stuff. I, at some point, could not follow the flow of the lesson as there was a little too much in some of the slides. However, the kahoot was fun and took away the lesson. In my opinion, constellations is a fun topic to learn and also the demo on Stellarium was very cool as well. Avilyn did a good job and Cayden did as well :_:
