Strategy 2: Unit of Study
(Ainsworth & Donovan, 2019, p. 164)
Unit of Study
A proper unit of study should include the following elements:
Pre-Test: To assess prior knowledge
Authentic Performance Tasks: A comprehensive model that includes instruction, learning, curriculum, and assessment
Post-Test: To assess student learning
Authentic Performance Tasks
The use of this model is considered comprehensive, as multiple purposes are served simultaneously (Ainsworth & Donovan, 2019). The tasks are designed to address each of the four sections of the model.
Instruction: Becomes highly relevant when tied to a specific purpose in the real world.
Learning: Performance tasks allows the use of scaffolded learning experiences designed to help students make their own connections to the Priority Standards.
Curriculum: Performance tasks provides students with opportunities to engage in project-based learning and inquiry-based learning.
Assessment: Performance tasks allows students to construct their own understanding of the Priority Standards through active participation and engagement.
More than one task can be used to address a section, four is not the maximum number of authentic performance tasks.
Below is a list of the types of actions that should be associated with each of the performance tasks.

Passport Book Activity #13
Please complete the activity on Slide 15 in the Passport Book
Using the same standard used for Passport Book Activity 10, create two authentic performance tasks using two different sections of the model (instruction, learning, curriculum, and assessment).
Each authentic performance task should address a different section (i.e. Task 1: Instruction, Task 2: Assessment).
