About this PLM

This module is designed for all teachers (elementary, middle, and high) that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic through virtual and/or hybrid instruction and are currently teaching in a K-12 setting. This module will provide resources and information related to planning authentic learning tasks and re-engaging students! This module will take you approximately 4 hours to complete. The focus of this module is to provide introductory information, examples of high-yield strategies, and resources for future self-paced inquiry. For more information on this PLM, click here.


The learning cycle featured in this project is based on a model developed by the IRIS Center and called the STAR Legacy Cycle (2013:http://iris.peabody.vanderbilt.edu/)


Please note, the link to the passport book is also provided at the bottom of each page. Remember, you will only need to make ONE copy of the Passport book and record all your responses there!

What do we hope to accomplish?

Participation in this module will help guide teachers' thinking about rigorous curriculum design to ensure they are intentional in choosing high yield learning tasks and activities throughout instruction.

What will you learn?

  • Participants will be able to identify the 12 steps of rigorous curriculum design

  • Participants will understand and apply the two strategies for planning authentic performance assessments

  • Participants will understand and apply high yield strategies based on the 5 to Thrive model

Our Professional Learning Module aligns with the Teacher Leader Model Standards. It is our hope that the information learned in this module will help teachers in the domains specifically listed below.

Teacher Leader Model Standards (TLMS)

The Leadership Exploratory Consortium created the Teacher Leader Model Standards (TLMS) with feedback from a varied group of educators working together to describe the attributes of teacher leaders. This PLM focuses on TLMS Domains I - V.

  • Domain I: Fostering a collaborative culture to support educator development and student learning.

  • Domain II: Accessing and using research to improve practice and student learning

  • Domain III: Promoting professional learning for continuous improvement

  • Domain IV: Facilitating improvements in instruction and student learning

  • Domain V: Promoting the use of assessments and data for school and district improvement
