Fourth graders had the opportunity to join a zoom meeting with a third grader's mom, who happens to be an astrophysicist and professor at Northwestern University who studies black holes! After spending the week gaining background knowledge about black holes, the students enthusiastically asked amazing questions throughout the zoom lesson. I think we may have a few students who were so inspired they want to pursue education in astrophysics! In the garden, students continued caring for the garden and enjoyed a delicious salad with lettuce harvested from the garden. In math, 4th graders reviewed multiplication, division and fractions by working as partners to share their math thinking. As a bonus, students got to meet their NC Pen Pals in a zoom meeting!

The fourth graders planted out starter plants in the garden this week. We are hoping they transfer well.

Practicing for the Palio Flag Ceremony- A Roycemore tradition!

Students have been taking a virtual Road Trip through the 5 Regions of the United States.

In math, students have been working on ordering and comparing decimals to the thousandths place.

The fourth graders were hard a work planting lettuces and flowers for the garden. They used two different types of soil to compare which soil was the best for growing vegetables.

Students picked a starter vegetable to observe for the next two weeks. They picked from the vegetables they all decided to plant this year. Each morning, students observe by measuring their plant, counting leaves, then drawing or recording information about how their plant has changed and grown. Some students are trying to create a time-lapse video of their daily observations.

Thank you for the homemade stool for the garden, sweet cards and flowers this week!

I am so blessed to teach your amazing children!
