4th Grade

November 18th - December 6th

Good-bye Mr. Braband

Thanks to our room parents, the students were able to surprise Mr. Braband with a framed picture that features each student individually, as well as the class as a whole. Students also gave Mr. Braband a home-made class book. Each student wrote and illustrated a page thanking Mr. Braband and shared memories of their time with him here at Roycemore. Of course, we also enjoyed all of the wonderful goodies that were brought to share. Thank you for your support!

Human Body Unit

Over the last several weeks we have been researching the skeletal system. Using several different science websites, students used their nonfiction reading skills to search for information about parts of the skeletal system. Students used their drawing and writing skills to illustrate and describe the terms in their own words. For more research about the human body, here is one of the websites we used: Biology for kids.

Writing Workshop

We just received the first package from our pen pals in fourth grade at Wayne Country Day School in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Students brainstormed, organized and developed their ideas into a multi-paragraph letter to their pen pals. Students completed the writing process by peer editing and revising their letters. Our focus when revising was on proper grammar, capitalization, ending punctuation, comma usage, and employing complete and compound sentences. We are looking forward to getting another package from our pen pals in the future! Ask your students to share their pen pal letters with you:)

Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day

What an amazing time we had with our grandparents and special friends! Students interviewed their guests to find out what their lives were like when they were in fourth grade. Some students had time to play Battleship, Sorry, or Apples to Apples with their visitors. We are so thankful that so many people came to join us. Please scroll through and enjoy the pictures!

The Tiger Rising Book Project

To bring our reading unit to a close, the students have chosen a book project. Through the project their will share their creativity as well as their thoughts about the book. Students are encouraged to take their time and complete a project they will be proud to share with the class. Please help your child to practice sharing before the due date. Each student was given directions for their project as well as a rubric to explain the expectations for the presentation and the project. I am looking forward to December 16th (the due date) when students will present their project to the class.
