December 2019

December 9th- December 13th, 2019

During the week all the third and fourth graders worked together on some engaging math tasks that were preparing them for the Illinois Council of Mathematics Contest. This is a math competition where Roycemore students work together, by grade, to compete against other schools in the state. It is all just for fun, and really challenges the students to read carefully and think critically. Students took the ICTM test this past week and did a great job. It was so fun to see the teams working together.

Illustrator Visit

Jacqueline Alcántara, the illustrator of Freedom Soup, shared her new book with Lower School students. Ms. Alcántara shared how she goes through the process of illustrating and the students showed their interest by asking detailed questions. They enjoyed the beautiful illustrations that help tell the story of family, love, and pride.

Hour of Code

Students had such a great time celebrating the Hour of Code. Fourth graders used Scratch to choose an everyday hero from their own life and built a story or game using code that gives their hero superpowers. Students will continue to use the CSFirst coding curriculum to learn more advanced coding.
