In math, we have been reviewing place value. As a culminating activity, students worked in groups to build Place Value Houses. They were given a number and they had to build a house using ones, tens, and hundreds blocks that added up to that specific number. They had to record the combination of blocks they used to show they added up to the number. There was a lot of excitement, crashing of blocks, and fun had by all!

In Reading Workshop, students are learning that people read intensely to grow solid ideas that are grounded in the text. As intense readers they figure out confusing parts in books, note important things to talk about later, and do the work the author asks of them. As a class, we are reading The Tiger Rising, by Kate Di Camillo. Students have picked their own independent reading books to practice the skills that are modeled while reading together as a group.
