Welcome Griffin Statue!

Math

This week in math, we learned about mixed numbers and improper fractions. Students used pieces of paper to represent the conversion of a mixed number to an improper fraction.

Morning Meeting

The new theme for our morning meetings is integrity. To begin our unit, we learned the differences between a person's integrity and their reputation. We watched several videos to learn more about what integrity means and how we can make choices to develop our character in a way that shows integrity.

Vocabulary

In our vocabulary study of Greek and Latin roots, the fourth graders learned that "phobia" comes from Greek word “phobos” meaning fear. Students researched fears and created slideshows to share the meanings of different phobias.

Biography Project

Since the fourth graders didn't get a change to have their traditional 3rd grade Wax Museum because of Covid, they wanted to get a chance to keep the tradition alive! Each student chose a "changemaker" - someone who, through their time, words, or actions, has caused or is causing positive changes in the lives of others. This week students started reading their biography and then we take notes as we read and keep them organized in our homemade organization folders. (see pictures below) I love the way that students can read in all kinds of comfortable ways in our classroom! (see pictures above)

Note Taking

We labeled our folders with 7 different envelopes to store and organize our notecards. Childhood, Adulthood, Major Contributions and Achievements, Other Facts, Source Cards and Blank Cards. Students can use this method of organization for years to come!

Celebrating

Black History Month

Students played a kahoot game to learn the origin of Black History Month and gain knowledge of important events, facts, and influential figures.
