What do you want to accomplish this week?
Is it academic, personal, social, emotional?
It could be a plan to explore colleges and careers, start a new book, create a resume', or clean up your room. Maybe you want to find a new way to communicate with friends or family you haven't been able to see. Whatever the idea, create a plan to start and/or complete it by the end of the week.
Let me know how you did by filling out this form:
Sometimes our brains are full of anxious thoughts and stressful ideas. Today let's think about what we are grateful for.
When we focus on what we are grateful for, and the things that we are happy to have in our lives, we feel calmer, happier, and more prepared to tackle any obstacles that my arise.
Today write a thank you letter to a person, place, or thing that you are grateful for.
Today take a breath, relax, center yourself and remember, it's ok to ask for help.
When life becomes overwhelming it is ok to reach out to a trusted friend or adult for advice, or just to have someone to listen to.
If you would like someone to help you come up with a plan when you start to feel stressed or anxious, fill out the Are You Ok Form and a counselor will respond as soon as possible.
No matter what is going on in the world it is important to check in with ourselves and ensure that we are taking care of our emotional and mental health as well as our physical health. In fact, many times physical health and mental health can be closely related. When we are physically active our bodies produce endorphins which can reduce pain, make us feel happier, and produce a feeling a positive energy.
Exercise can:
Improve our level of physical fitness
Increase our ability to concentrate
Improve our academic scores
Strengthen our hearts, lungs, muscles, and bones
Increase our energy levels
Enhance our emotional wellbeing
Today:
Take a walk or jog around the block with your family. Time yourself and see if you can beat that time tomorrow.
Try to do 25 jumping jacks
Try to do 30 crunches
Try to do 20 pushups
Try to do 30 squats
Take note of how you feel before and after exercising. Don't stress if you can't finish something. It takes time to meet fitness goals. The goal is to do what you can and keep working to meet your goals. If you can only do 1 push up today, set a reasonable goal that you can meet.
For example: I will be able to do 10 push ups in two weeks.
Keep doing a little bit every day and congratulate yourself every time you meet a goal.
Don't forget that you're awesome!
Take the time to check in with family. Sometimes we need to stop and reconnect even with the people that we see every day. Our lives can get so busy that we may not always remember to slow down and really get to know the people that we love the most.
Or maybe there is a family member or friend that you have not been able to spend time with because of social distancing. This may be a good time to give them a call, right them a letter, or video chat with them if you can.
Here are some conversation starters:
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you travel to?
What would your perfect day consist of?
What was high school like for you?
What is your favorite memory of us?
If you were stranded on a deserted island what are the three things you would want with you?
Did you try an activity every day?
