Within Google Classroom, students have three opportunities per assignment to run an Originality Report on their own work before submission. To do so, students must click on "View Assignment Instructions" in order to find the option to run an originality report. Originality Reports give a percent of how much of the assignment contains material directly from another source or the number of times the checker has flagged content. The report will also highlight the problematic sections as well as link to websites where the exact same information can be found.
The template below is a version of a Diffit-generated student activity. Diffit can adjust the reading level of a passage, create a summary, identify key vocabulary, as well as generate multiple-choice, short-answer, and open-ended questions for students to answer. A premium account can generate student activities like the A Moment in Time activity. To use the template below, go to File, then Make a copy. Next, add the image you want students to analyze in the middle image placeholder section.
Word Sift will help teachers quickly identify important words that appear in a section of text (300 word minimum). Once a tag cloud is created, click on individual words to find how many times a specific word occurs in the text. Word Sift will also create a Word Visualization web with definitions and synonyms for a particular word as well as visual images, and YouTube videos that explain the word. The site's developers hope that teachers will use their tools to help support English Language Learners.
