Self monitoring occurs when students monitor and evaluate their progress and performance relative to success criteria or standards. Self monitoring has a reported effect size of .50. Students who set their own goals, and get regular feedback on the progress of those goals, have higher levels of achievement in general (Hattie, 2007).
