The Rialto Board of Education has adopted criteria to award Rialto students a State Seal of Civic Engagement upon graduation (see document to the left).
Our district wide Strategic Plan for bridging school and community learning opportunities includes the following Action Step: “In US History and Government courses, students will engage in at least one community service learning project, either individually or in small groups to meet the State Civic Engagement Seal. Project efficacy and logistics will be left to high school history teachers.”
The State Seal of Civic Engagement application link can be found on the district Career and Technical Education webpage. Graduating seniors must complete the application by March 1, 2024 to be eligible for the diploma seal. The informational video to the right explains in depth the criteria for earning the State Seal of Civic Engagement.

To earn a State Seal of Civic Engagement, students must “Participate in one or more informed civic engagement project(s) that address real-world problems and require students to identify and inquire into civic needs or problems, consider varied responses, take action, and reflect on efforts.”
