The view of the tree was in the center of their vision as they patiently awaited the moment where Christmas magic would fill the atmosphere around them. As those around Winnie and Ollie took this moment for granted, this year has taught them to do no such thing, living every moment to its fullest potential, knowing it would be her last. Ollie stands proud, with his hands resting upon his wife's shoulders, keeping a grip strong enough to remind himself that he has her in this moment, but still with a weakness reminding him that this moment will soon be just a vivid memory burned in his mind. He reminds himself that he can't be thinking like this, not today. He puts on a reassuring smile in case his wife happens to glance over at him. This trip to New York was one that the two of them had dreamed of since their first Christmas together, and now on their last, they decided that there was no better time to make it come true. It wasn't just the Christmas tree and decorations that made Christmas feel different here, but instead the people. Seeing families build new traditions, and witnessing almost everybody being in their best spirits is what really brought the magic alive. This is what they had been waiting their lives for. It had been years since the uniqueness of a Christmas laugh had echoed in their homes, due to their children being all grown and living away from home, focused on growing their own families. It was a sound that they didn't quite realise just how much they missed until it was the only sound surrounding them once again. The feeling that was brought to them was one that had come to be slightly unfamiliar due to the lack of it in their lives recently, they had really come to miss the feeling of comfort and all it had to offer, especially surrounding the Christmas season.
