Eli, a 10th-grade hard-working lazybones, the oldest child in the family, sits on the couch surrounded by solitude while pondering to himself about the deeds he had done in his past, the schoolwork he is doing in his present, and his plan for his future. What he will do once he is an adult? What does he want for Christmas, when will he finally be satisfied with what he has been doing? What he had done before, and if he could have done a few things just a little differently. Who knows? What if he wants something a little different from the norm for this Christmas? Every day feels like a battle in his mind, even if everything looks like a tea party for him on the outside. All those things he ponders about lead him into a spiral of only seeing what happened before and what happens next, blinded from what is going on right now, trapped in this spiral that just so happens to be a part of growing up, unable to see that the people who care about him just want to help him get through this, but just like with the present, he is, unfortunately, blind to their aid, but what he can see, is that someday, this dreadful spiral WILL end, when it does, much like what happens next with his journey, is a mystery. Though it will happen this fact doesn’t escape his knowledge, and he knows that no matter how far he walks on his path it never will. Maybe knowing that is a pretty good Christmas gift to him. But hey, at least Eli has some time left to think before he needs to find a place to call his own and a future to take responsibility for unlike his mother, Samantha, and father, Adam.
