My eyes begin to widen. I wake up distraught thinking it's an ordinary day but when I hear the sound of laughter and the smell of christmas pudding, it makes me know exactly what day it is. My eyes light up in happiness and my whole body fills with butterflies and joy. I jump out of bed faster than I ever had before. Rushing to put on my slippers and race down stairs.
“Emma, Get down here!”
“I'm coming mom!” I yelled back to her.
“Could you get started on the cranberry sauce please?” I rush to grab the cans of cranberries and as I do so a pound of icing sugar comes falling to the ground. I looked both ways hoping and praying my mom didnt notice that I just spilled it all over the floor. I quickly ran over to the pot to start the sauce and act like nothing happened. But before I know it my mom is screaming at me for an answer on why there is a huge mess on the ground. I hear my dog bark and look at his beautiful white coat. The only problem is that he is not a white dog he is a brown dog and just got into the powdered sugar. My mom looks at him along with him then our eyes meet back at one another.
“Sorry… I apologize.” She looks at me in disappointment. Before handing me the garbage can to clean my mess.
“Your grandparents will be here any minute and we can not have the house looking like this!”
I looked up at her in fear . My mom has been working for the past 3 days trying to make the house as clean as possible. With little to no time working her 3 jobs she has managed to pull it off. As quickly as I can I start to clean up the mess, scooping as much as I can into the garbage can before whipping the rest up with a towel. Just as I put the garbage can back in its spot the doorbell rings and I race towards it. I open the door and as I expected my grandparents are here. My grandma comes into the house and squeezes the life out of me, my grandpa laughing behind her.
“We brought extra food in the car. Would you like to help us bring it in?” I gestured yes then proceeded to grab the load of groceries from the trunk. I look around me wondering where my grandparents have gone but when I walked inside I was excited to see that my whole family came to surprise me on my favourite holiday.
“I thought you guys all had to work!”
“No, we couldn't miss out on the best holiday of the year!”
