Governmental Programs

The National School Lunch Program is a federally assisted meal program operating in public and nonprofit private schools and residential child care institutions. It provides nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunches to children each school day.

If you receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, all of your children who attend school automatically qualify for free school meals. Participation in other Federal assistance programs, including Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) also provides automatic eligibility.

WIC is the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children.

WIC helps income eligible pregnant and breastfeeding women, women who recently had a baby, infants, and children up to five years of age who are at health risk due to inadequate nutrition.

The program improves pregnancy outcomes by providing or referring to support services necessary for full-term pregnancies; reduces infant mortality by reducing the incidence of low birth weight (infants under 5 ½ pounds are at greater risk of breathing problems, brain injuries and physical abnormalities), and provides infants and children with a healthy start in life by improving poor or inadequate diets.


WIC provides

  • nutrition education,

  • breastfeeding education and support;

  • supplemental,

  • highly nutritious foods such as cereal, eggs, milk, whole grain foods, fruits and vegetables, and iron-fortified infant formula; and referral to prenatal and pediatric health care and other maternal and child health and human service programs.

Homestyle Direct's Home Meal Delivery program ships free healthy delicious meals directly to Medicaid recipients receiving the approved meal delivery waver. This program serves seniors and people with disabilities in need in order to help them live independently at home.

A Medicaid recipient must first contact their Medicaid agency to Medicaid representative and request a meal waiver applications. Once the completed application is returned to Medicaid, a subsequent evaluation will be scheduled to determine eligibility.

Our Meals on Wheels program provides older adults with nutritious home delivered meals five days a week Monday through Friday. Meals are $6.75 and are nutritionally balanced and low in fat, sugar and sodium. Meal includes the choice of 2% or skim milk or juice. Anyone is eligible to receive these meals. It could be individuals who are elderly, disabled, new mothers or someone who doesn't want to prepare meals for themselves for any reason.

Government assisted programs are available and you may call for an assessment of need.

Hot meals are available Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Frozen meals are available for evenings, non-delivery days and weekends. Meals are delivered between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and clients must be home when meal is delivered. Meals cannot be left without the client being present.

Mom's Meals NourishCare provides Home Delivered Meals to the elderly, disabled, and individuals in poor health, who are eligible for economic assistance through Medicaid Waiver or other government-funded nutrition programs.

This program provides:

  • Home delivered meals which will last up to 14 days from deliver

  • Client choice of broad selections of nutritious meals to fit your dietary needs

  • Health condition menus available.

Eligibility:

  • Must have a Medicaid Waiver or other government-funded nutrition programs

  • Must be 65 or older OR

  • disabled OR

  • require assistance with grocery shopping and/or preparing meals.

Meals are delivered nationwide, even to the most rural and remote address. If you're currently a Medicaid/Medicare recipient, contact your assigned case manager to request Mom's Meals NourishCare and confirm eligibility.
