Gliding Stars of Findlay, Ohio is an adaptive ice skating program that provides individuals with disabilities the opportunity to increase their personal potential through development of ice skating skills in a regular program of instruction and practice, utilizing our specialized adaptive equipment while practicing in our own local community! The skating season runs from September through March.
Skaters with disabilities required special attention on the ice, but they can attain the basics of ice skating skills in a fun and inclusive environment? On-ice volunteers assist them in gaining these skills and then measure what degree to which they have attained the skill. Our Stars have an opportunity to gain overall better health including increased muscle strength, improved fine and gross motor skills, improved balance, and experience success, increased confidence, and self-esteem.
Our annual ice show is the culmination of weeks of skilled instruction and practice and our Stars are assigned a role to play in the end of season show. There is no greater sense of accomplishment than the cheers of the audience and heightened electricity of a live production!
Serves Toddler to Adults with disabilities
Particpating skaters have a wide range of abilities and special challenges, including: Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Traumatic Brain Injury, Emotional, Behavioral and Learning Disabilities.
Each skater is fitted with customized skates and other adaptive skating equipment, including helmets, harnesses, and walkers, all specially designed by Gliding Stars, Inc.

Skaters participate in lessons each week (Sundays) during the season - pared with trained volunteers and directed by skilled skating instructors
Lessons include fun activities as well as ice skating techniques to create an integrated community help overcome limitations

What is Family ECHO: Autism: Family ECHO: Autism is a virtual learning program for families and caregivers raising children with autism. This series is designed to educate families so that parens and caregivers can learn to better support and care for their child with autism.
From navigating a diagnosis to learning about new therapies, parents and caregivers of children with autism need an immense amount of knowledge and support in order to provide the best care to their loved ones. This information can be difficult to access - so Family ECHO: Autism is here to help.
As a cp;;abpratove environment, Family ECHO: Autism connects families with an Interdisciplinary panel of experts from Nationwide Children's Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital Lurie Center, Children's Hosptial of Philadelphia, and the Autism Care Network. The series is designed to increase autism knowledge, build leadership skills for managing interdisciplinary care teams, and provide strategies that can be applied by families and their teams. In a series of 75-minute sessions you will learn, engage and build skills around four major topics:
Understanding and managing challenging behaviors
Building support for your family
Anxiety and autism
Transition out of pediatrics
So far the results have been impactful - 91% of past participants say the program has improved their knowledge and ability to care for children with developmental disabilities, including autism.
What can you expect?
In each session, presenters will share a case study and best practices that will deepen your understanding of autism and help you better advocate for your child with autism.

Services Provided: Medical testing and continued care through age 21
Referral Process: All new patients my be referred by their Primary Care Physician or a Qualified Professional such as Help Me Grow, Early Intervention, OT, PT, etc. They must complete a referral form and fax it to the Center. Once a referral is received, the family will receive a call from the Center for Child Development to start the process which wil include paperwork the family must complete and return before the actual assessment is scheduled.
Evaluation Process: Once a referral is received, a staff member will make contact with the family to explain the process and paperwork will be sent to the family to aid in the evaluation process. Once the paperwork is received from the family, an appointment will be scheduled for the evaluation and review. All necessary assessment appointments are scheduled in the same day, therefore allowing for testing and results to be available to the family at one time.
Costs: Because The Center completes a medical assessment, testing services are covered by Bureau for Children with Medical Handicaps (BCMH), Medicaid and all commercial insurance providers except Molina and Medical Mutual Marketplace. Please check with your insurance provider or with the nurse when you are contacted if you have any question.
Wait Period: Once The Center receives the referral from the Doctor or Qualified Professional and contact is made with the family, the assessment is typically completed within six months, depending on how quickly the family returns the necessary paperwork.

Referral Process: The referral process starts with a referral being submitted by the child’s primary care physician.
Evaluation Process: Patients specifically referred for concerns for autism are asked to complete a questionnaire with birth, family information, description of concerns and developmental milestones. Based on parent and referring provider feedback, we may schedule the patient in the autism diagnostic clinic. For an autism assessment, a developmental pediatrician and a child psychologist may see the patient together or individually. The psychologist does appropriate testing depending on the child’s symptoms and the developmental pediatrician will assess any medical, behavioral or developmental symptoms. We strive to provide a diagnosis, autism or otherwise, at the time the patient is seen and to recommend services or further referral.
After the assessment is completed, staff will work with you and your child on development of a treatment plan. The doctor completing the assessment will be working with you to develop the plan best to meet your child’s needs. Your family may be assigned a Social Worker who can assist in locating resources and providers.

Insurance(s) Accepted: Private Insurance and all Medicaid plans. Contact your Insurance provider with any questions regarding your coverage.
Wait List: 5-6 months. Once a referral is made for your child by their primary care physician, a questionnaire will be sent to you. Please complete this thoroughly, and return it to the hospital promptly to prevent any delay in the assessment process. Additional appointments will not be scheduled until the questionnaire is returned.
Please note, any missed or canceled appointments will slow the assessment down considerably.

ABA Therapy: available for diagnosed youth between the ages of 2-5 years. After the age of 5, students are transitioned to services in their school districts.
Referral Process: Families can make a self-referral to get their child on the waiting list, however, a referral from the family physician/pediatrician is needed prior to the assessment.
Evaluation Process: Psychologist will determine the actual evaluation tools used depending on the child. Assessments used: ADOS, Vineland, Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS). Assessments are completed in two separate sessions, typically scheduled on Wednesdays.

Referral Process: A prescription from a physician is needed before scheduling a ADOS assessment. A member of the staff will contact the family for scheduling purposes once the prescription is received.
Evaluation Process:
The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) is a tool to evaluate the social skills and repetitive behaviors of your child. The formally trained examiner will pay attention to the way your child communicates, interacts socially, and plays. After the test, the examiner will work with your child’s pediatric specialist to develop a care plan to help your child thrive in school, home, and life. The assessment will take approximately 90 minutes. The first 30 minutes will be a meeting between the parent(s) and examiner. Followed by the ADOS assessment between the examiner and child, which lasts about 60 minutes. Once the assessment is completed, the results and recommended therapies are sent to the referring physician who will then make the official diagnosis.
