Fia Fia 2010

P = Plus

M= Minus

I= Interesting

Improvements:

Have children who are unable to do the action be in a more suitable group.

Have more clarity on the choice in the forms for example Cook Island Maori should be maori.

Gender balanced in the groups.

Formal schedule for time on the stage.

A common donation box as opposing giving money to the kids.

Tell kids well before event about the koha practice we are going to follow e.g. in Samoan group we talked about this and so on night - all children knew it was all to be put in the koha box 'our whanau's koha to PES through us'.

Charge the parents a minimal fee on the night - maybe set seating.

Event over 2-3 nights.

Question mark over the children in the junior pounamu

Some guidance for the children in the independent groups - like Bollywood

Micro-phoning of the stage itself.

Security and access. - problems were extras in the corridor throughout the performance and parents picking children up as soon as their child had performed - even if they had other children performing later on.

We also need to define door access as there were parents coming through the side door by the stage whcih hindered performers waiting in the wings

Parent as tutors rather than college students or tutors.

Acknowledging of the tutors who not PES staff - gift? Or acknowledgement on Fiafia night.

More hall time.

Inform the parents/children of the points of entry.

If Raewyn’s groups could be grouped in terms of the performance or don’t let people have two groups. Kapa haka groups are too big - junior & middle.

Children confused between the dress rehearsal and the real event.

Have our own senior kapahaka uniform.

Parents restricted access in holding rooms---sp with video cameras etc.

Have teachers supervising holding rooms.--All holding rooms should have teachers in charge!

Teachers in ONE group - no teachers doubling up on other groups (then the above prob wouldn’t happen)
