THE CITRUS PROJECT
CONCEPT:
For this citrus project, I decided to create an aroma diffuser by using the peels of citrus. The softness of those peels allowed me to have the organic shape.
The diffuse itself has a light orangey scent because of the material. One could drop several drops of essential oil on the peels in order to get a stronger scent.
OUT OF THE BOX
CONCEPT:
For this project, I cut candles into different lengths and randomly arranged them to fulfill the entire box. I named it as "The Dying Songs of Candles".
The scent, light, and sound was all original; one will have the scent of melting wax with burned walnut. And the light is candlelight and the sound is the burning sound of candles.
RITUAL ALTAR
CONCEPT:
The altar I would like to create is supposed to be portable since I have found that most of the altars are pretty bulky, whether locate in public spaces or prayers' home. It's hard for the prayers to finish their ritual when they are on their business trips, and therefore I designed this portable altar to make sure those rituals wouldn't be limited by places.
In order to reduce the volume, I made a candle with shape of an ancient Chinese worship figure. And I used bamboo to create the container for this figural candle. The prayer would be able to hold their ritual by simply turning the container back (therefore they get a small flat surface which is enough for holding the candle), and once they finish their rituals, they could put the candle back into the container.
The scent of this altar is smoke with dark wood, both from my replicated scent kits.
SANCTUARY 1
CONCEPT:
This sanctuary I made was inspired by the shell of sea urchins and cocoon. Both of them are vulnerable materials but they are strong enough to be a protector for those who live inside them. I really appreciate the texture of both of them; in order to get a similar texture, I used tissue paper and air ballon to create this globe.
Besides a decorative sculpture, the globe also serves as a helmet in order to give the viewers an immersive experience, and therefore the globe would be viewed either outside in or inside out.
The scent of the globe is fruit and dark wood, both from my replicated scent kits.
SANCTUARY 2
CONCEPT:
My second sanctuary project is based on my first one. For this one, I would like to imagine the globe as the earth we live in. Generally speaking, the earth would be the shared sanctuary for us all. But it is facing heavier environmental pollutions nowadays. I painted half of the globe with grey color in order to show the pollution, and the color is direct form my replicated scent kit.
One would be able to see the pollution process by looking inside. The scent for this one is simply my replicated scent of smoke.
