No Scratch to Sniff
For this piece, The Citrus Project, I painted with watercolor various citrus fruits. After the paint dried I then got to work consuming, extracting and grating the different fruits for their juice and zest. I painted multiple layers of juice on then laid the zest of the peels on top. What is left is the scents of the citrus combining when one moves in close to smell.
Out of the Box
This out of the box is more, Out of the Ground. I bruised the various herbs to help allow their scent to release at a higher strength. The holes were placed in a way that allowed you to smell each scent more closely without being overwhelmed by all the scents, where when you smell from the front you get to experience the sense (no pun intended) of a garden that has been unearthed, and brought together as though preparing a meal.
Mask-erade
I took inspiration from the 16th Century Masquerade Ball's of the Renaissance masks. However, I adapted it to a more modern, Pandemic inclusive, model. The shape is mimicked from a (unidentified) leaf that I found while out on a walk. Scented to smell like Earl Grey Tea, I used a paint brush to paint the scent onto the pages of a book, destroyed for previous assignments (and future ones, too). Two layers of paper, and four to five coats of tea both tinted the pages, and helped create the shape of the mask.
The mask is a hand held creation, using a black plastic recorder/flute cleaner. Something I felt also went along with the Masquerade theme of music and dance.
This piece took inspiration from Peter Pan and Bridge to Terabithia. With the end of warm weather fast approaching in Utah I found myself drawn to the outdoors and nature's resources.
Whether it was the month of October, or my recent Harry Potter Marathon (I do not condone the actions, and words, of the Author, She-who-must-not-be-Named, against Trans people), I found myself drawn into a world of magic. I created my alter to magic, both that of more myth based elements and that of what I would call "practical" magic, like tarot reading, herbal remedies and the powers of stones.
While setting up my Alter I found myself most productive while listening, viewing, the very films I'd drawn inspiration on. I felt that this best fit as part of the sound that was to play with the rest of my alter, along side the sound of my gurgling cauldron and the silence of my quiet home late at night.
Taking inspiration from my Ritual project, based in the realm of magic I expanded to the creatures found among the magical people. Studying films about these various creatures I was drawn to the idea of Sanctuary on a small scale, one for imagination and the unseen world.

Taking inspiration of the nickname given to my father, and a couple poems I'd written I wrote a story about a young child and their experience with hidden creatures.
I've Included the Poems below:
Half-Bath
Making potions in the Downstairs bathroom
Mixing soap with water not to drink
Spilling over carpet, small feet swirl soapsuds
giggling girls hushing each other trying to keep quiet
I flip a switch lights off the carpet dry
the soap and dispenser different Giggles echo
in the small room hushing each other as I leave
Yet they continue to splash about
the suds rising higher and higher
