Morgan's Protection Talisman
Resin, yellow tinted mica, ribbon, silver chain & jewelry material , plastic beetle
Scent Profile: stone, smoke, dark wood, green, skin
The wearable art for my Avatar is a talisman a Green Witch named Morgan wears that serves as a form of protection from the story’s antagonist, The Mind Thief. It’s a beetle fossilized in amber from an occult shop in “Rightside Up”
A black ribbon has been soaked in her scent and attached to the necklace. The color black often signals protection, and this ribbon may have been used as a sort of binding on the protection charm.
The Miasma Prototype
Surgical mask and plastic flowers
Scent profile: Light Floral and Green accord
The miasma prototype imagines a futuristic society in which the air is no longer breathable so humans wear masks made out of organic material and oxygen tanks scented with lavender and rose to breathe instead of the polluted air
Poem 4 Interpretation
Large drawing paper, markers, dry leaves, colored wax
Scent Profile: Dark wood, stone, light floral, green, skin
This piece reimagines Poem 4 from the Poetry of Longing—following a person who is tempted into the forest & an old stagnant pond after smelling the scent of their lover in the wind
The audio that accompanies this piece features a reading of the poem along with nature sounds that correspond with the main character's journey. Each passage is scented by which nature scene they are coming upon as they travel deeper into the forest
Samhain Ritual Altar
Various materials
Scent profile: Frankincense incense, Myrrh incense, Apple, Pomegranate, Sunflower, Wet leaves, Dirt , Smoke accord , Dark wood accord, Skin accord
Our altar was meant to honor the Pagan festival of Samhain, the last of the three major harvests and the end/beginning of the wheel of the year. The most sacred festival to the Celtic people, Samhain takes place over the course of three days and celebrates the end of the harvest and summer, the beginning of winter, saying goodbye to the Horned One (sun god) who will be reborn again on Yule, welcoming the goddess, and giving thanks.

Ghost 1
White candle, gold sharpie
Scent Profile: heavy floral, green, smoke, and stone
Because Ghost 1 by Nine Inch Nails reminded me of a graveyard, and elicited a feeling of sadness, longing, and the supernatural, I decided to make this candle represent someone trying to communicate with a lost love. The script on the candle are the wedding vows from Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride.
Faerie House Sanctuary
Various found and artificial woodland materials, sculpey, fabric
Scent Profile: Myrrh Incense, Brich, Oak, Pine, Moss, Mud, Green (homemade), Green (scent kit), Dark wood (homemade) , Dark wood (scent kit), Lavender oil , Smoke accord , Dirt
My definition of sanctuary comes from when I used to build faerie houses in the forest behind my home as a child. Here, I created a sanctuary featuring faerie houses made with object from nature and clay faeries. By crouching down to experience the installation, I hoped people would feel childlike/nostalgic and fall into the faerie world in the box no matter where it is installed
Yule Portal
fabric, tool, mirror, wire, candles
Scent Profile: Snow, Pine Needles, Dirt, Sage Tincture, Skin Accord, Smoke Accord, Patchouli Incense
For my Sanctuary II, I created a structure around a naturally occurring semi-circle of tress in the forest behind my house that already incircles an altar.
Using a mirror I created a "portal" meant to represent a faerie world one could fall into.
In some ways, the structure also represents a Yule altar with an offering of an apple and a rosemary sprig, and could be viewed as a sanctuary in that sense as well.
