Sujie

Inspired by the experience of wearing mask in this special period of time, I used a whole tangerine peel and reorganized it into a mask. Because when you wear the perfume, no one can smell it with the mask on, even yourself. So I decided to make this mask to create a tangerine scent inside your mask. I sew the peels together with light green yarn to represent fresh scent of tangerine.

My Avatar is a traveller. I made a shoe for it. I used pages from National Geographic magazine with beautiful scenery as the bottom. For scent, I have stone, green, smoke and light floral. They are the smell on the road when traveling

MASK

For mask project, I created a garden inside of my mask. So we can still smell the green plants when sitting in a park with mask on. For the scent, except the smell of green and soil of the plant, I added some duplicated floral scent.

OUT OF BOX

Our project consists of a box with a warm glowing light inside. Inside this box with a circle cut out will be a plate of the physical food (the seeing component) - on the plate will be a rice crispy treat, peeled oranges, coffee beans, and peanuts. To reach the box one must walk forward crunching coffee beans, the orange peels, and peanuts. By crushing the beans one will be releasing the oils of all of the ingredients on the trail, filling the air with scent and the sounds (the touch and smelling component)

When the reach the box they will place on headphones and listen to ASMR sounds (another sound component). This will be a full experience of taking in four of the five senses, due to COVID we cannot eat in the classroom or share food but the can share the experience of food beyond taste by incorporating hearing, touch, smell, and sight.

MAGIC IN MUSIC

This music gives me a exotic and mysterious feeling. I had stone, heavy floral and skin in the water, and pour the colors in with the rhythm of the music.

THE POETRY OF LONGING

Based The Lady Of The Hsiang, I took some photo of flowers and green other botany in the rain, and overlap them in photoshop. Inorder to create feeling of blear, mild, sad and beautiful woman-- Lady Hsiang.

The Lady Of The Hsiang

God's child has come down to the northern shore,

But her eyes gaze far away ; it makes me sad.

Nao, nao blows the autumn wind,

Makes waves on Tung-t'ing, brings down the leaves from the trees.

Over the white nut-grass my eyes roam;

I made a tryst with this fair one at curtain-time.

Would a bird roost amid the duckweed?

What would a fish-net be doing at the top of a tree?

The Yuan has its angelica, the Li its orchids;

I long for this royal lady, but dare not speak.

All is blurred as I gaze into the distance;

I see only the waters swirling by.

Would an elk browse in the courtyard?

What would a dragon be doing on the bank of the stream?

In the morning I gallop my horses in the lowlands by the river,

At nightfall I cross to the western bank.

RITUAL ALTER

This set of ritual is very traditional in my hometown, but it would simplify by every generation. And I want to modernlize it for my generation.

I applied color on the budda to make it wear a colorful dress, and made it hold a scallion instead of willow. The budda will use the scallion dip in the liquid in bottle she hold and splash on people's heads to give blessings.

In the bottle, blended incense tincture, floral, and tea.

For the further version, I made it more modernlized. I gave it a hand made frame and digital background. I added a edm music as the sound for it.

SANCTUARY I

Work with Lisa and Andy, our sanctuary is a memoty house. The outer shape is inspired by coccon, which gives me sense of safety. We putted some stuff in the coccon, which represent the sweet memories of childhood and bitter memories after grown up.

In the center of the space is a light box with photographic films on it. We had music box as background music, which is one of our favorite toy in our childhood.

For scent, we have sweet, skin, and wood. Also, we have marshmallow, oreo, popcorn as the natural sweet scent. We also have leather scent from a leather notebook, wine from cork, and cigarette.

SANCTUARY II

In this version of santuary, we moved it to the playground and put it at the exit of slide. It's also the exit of our childhood. We put the exit sign in the center of our tent, and leaves around it. It is a ceremony for childhood memory.

For the scent we still have wood, sweet and skin. But we have less sweet this time, because it is a bitter sweet memory. And we added burned leave scent. burned leave smells more heavy, it also represent we burned our memory.
