When you are hired to be a COE instructor:
Review and complete HR's new hire resources and adjunct resources (if applicable)
Complete the required FERPA Student Records Privacy tutorial
Complete the required Preventing Prohibited Discrimination and Harassment tutorial

Create your course syllabus using the required COE Syllabus Template: Word, Google Docs. This template is accessibility-formatted.
Check PSU's Academic Calendar for important term dates to include in your syllabus.
Check MyPSU and PSU's Course Search tools to verify your course's dates, times, location, and student roster.
Faculty Registration Override allows the instructor of record of a course to provide registration overrides for individual students directly through myPSU.
Before the term starts, course waitlists are automated. Once the term begins, you may give students permission to add your course electronically using the Faculty Registration Override function in your myPSU.
Order your course texts: Deadlines changes every academic year so please check the Academic Affairs website for more information.
Set up and publish your course's Canvas (LMS) page for students: OAI's Canvas tutorials provide information on how to activate, set up, and teach through Canvas.
Ask the Program Coordinator and/or Department Chair if your course has any required assessments that must be entered in TK20.

During the first week, Initiate Attendance for Students.
During the second week, you will receive an email from the COE Operations Specialist asking you to share a copy of our syllabus for accreditation purposes.
Photocopying course materials: COE copy machines are available on the second and fourth floor of the Vanport Buiding. If any of your materials require copyright permission, please see the section on PSU Copyrighted Print-Media Materials Use Policy.
You can put course materials on Reserve through the PSU Library.
Classroom Audiovisual Equipment: All classrooms on campus include a computer console, connections for laptops, overhead projector, screen, speakers, and a document camera.

Instructor Absences: If it is absolutely necessary for you to miss a class, please notify your department chair and program coordinator with as much advance notice as possible so that a substitute faculty instructor can be located or students can be notified of the class cancellation.
Emergency and crisis management at PSU: Please review the campus' emergency management plans to know your role during emergencies.
On Campus Safety Escort Services: The Campus Safety Escort Service is available to students, staff, faculty and instructors who needs a safety escort 24/7.
Student Expectations and Codes of Conduct: Expectations for student conduct and procedures for addressing student conduct can be found in the PSU Code of Student Conduct and Responsibility and the COE's Academic Performance Guidelines.
If you have any concerns about a student's conduct, please consult with your Program Coordinator and Department Chair immediately.
Immediate concerns about student safety can be reported directly to the Dean of Student Life and/or Campus Public Safety. Any reports must also be shared with your Department Chair.
The PSU Dean of Student Life's Office provides some additional faculty and staff resources related to students, including Instructor Policies and Mandatory Obligations Related to Students.
Faculty Responsibility for Accommodations for Students with Disabilities: The accommodation process is managed by PSU's Disability Resource Center (DRC).
Use the PSU Online Grading System to submit end of term final grades, grade changes, corrections to initial grades, and remove incompletes (see Tutorial on PSU Grading System)

Assigning Incompletes: Assigning an incomplete is a three-step process in the COE
Determine if the student meets the incomplete eligibility criteria
Write a clearly defined incomplete contract outlining how the coursework will be completed
Share the signed incomplete contract with the student and your Department Administrator and/or Chair for tracking purposes
Course Evaluation Process: Students receive an email at their pdx.edu address with a link to complete the course evaluation. Completed evaluation data is sent to the COE course scheduler who then shares them with the relevant Department Chair and instructor after grades are submitted in the subsequent term.
Kaltura Media Space is where you can upload, create, and edit video and audio resources for your course.
