Revised 10/20/2014
Revised 10/20/2014
The COE supports staff members’ interest in ongoing personal and professional development through university courses. To insure continuity of service, to promote consistency across the school, and to avoid unfairly burdening colleagues, the following guidelines will be followed.
Full-time staff members are encouraged to arrange classes for outside normal working hours as much as possible (5:00pm and after).
Requests to take classes during regular work hours must be approved by the direct supervisor, who will consult with the COE Chief Financial Officer. Arrangements for work schedule changes and work station coverage must be made through supervisor.
A staff member may take no more than one course per term during regular work hours (with permission of direct supervisor and with sufficient coverage of work station arranged).
Copies of all Academic and Staff Fee Authorization forms should be provided to the COE Chief Financial Officer.
Submit a written request that includes a copy of your proposed course schedule along with a plan for alternative work schedule to your supervisor at least one month prior to start date.
Set up an appointment (sometime after submitting the written request) to meet with your supervisor.
Your supervisor will provide you with a written response to your request no later than two weeks prior to the beginning of the class.
Submit the Staff Fee Privilege Approval form to your supervisor for signature and send to Human Resources.
