Promotion and Tenure Committee

General Purpose
To implement and monitor the effectiveness of school policies, procedures, and criteria associated with faculty promotion, tenure, post-tenure review, and merit pay; and to offer recommendations to the Dean of the College of Education (COE) regarding promotion, tenure, post-tenure review, and award of merit to faculty.
Specific Responsibilities
Develop and implement promotion, tenure, merit, and post-tenure review procedures as needed to implement the COE Promotion and Tenure Guidelines and University Policy in these matters.
Review COE and University policies and criteria for promotion, tenure, post-tenure review, and merit pay; present the results of this review to the faculty and recommend any needed changes.
Provide guidance and support to faculty as they prepare and submit their individual portfolios for promotion and tenure review.
Conduct third-year reviews of all eligible faculty.
Support appropriate faculty with formative annual reviews.
In compliance with university policy, act as the Merit Pay Committee for the COE, under guidelines specified by the OAA.
Form ad hoc committees as needed to carry out the responsibilities of the committee.
Membership
Members will include eight tenured members with academic ranks represented, two from each department, elected by departmental faculty and with overlapping terms. Each department will also elect one alternate member. Members will serve a two-year term, but may be reelected to a second consecutive term.
