The Purpose of This Re
As schools are often the first point of contact for families who are experiencing poverty, we have a responsibility to direct families to organizations who will best serve their needs. Poverty is often a major barrier to educational outcomes, and as in the case of other equity issues, it is our job as educators to triage presenting needs and continue to advocate on behalf of our students.
This resource aims to provide schools with a comprehensive list of agencies and organizations that can support students and their families who identify as being impacted by poverty. Through compiling resources, supports and services available to students and families impacted by poverty, we aim to help schools be better prepared to support the various needs of their students and reduce barriers to encourage equitable educational outcomes and experiences.
Schools can, and do, make a significant impact on the lives and academic outcomes of students living in poverty. This resource will help make information accessible to all Peel Schools so that we can readily provide support and resources to our families most affected by poverty.
