Program Description:

Our program is a telephone-based intake service that evaluates clients' needs and issues through preliminary assessments conducted by qualified intake workers. Following comprehensive evaluations, clients are referred to the various mental health programs and services that are suitable for their particular case. The network of services is provided by these six organizations:

• Associated Youth Services of Peel,
• Nexus Youth Services,
• Peel Children’s Centre,
• Rapport Youth & Family Services
• Trillium Health Partners – Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services
• William Osler Health System – Mental Health Services for Children and Adolescents

Eligibility Requirements:

• children and youth under 25 years of age and their families.
• dealing with mental health challenges
• residents of the Region of Peel or, for some programs, in Dufferin County or Halton Region.

Tangerine Walk-In Counselling

Program Description:

• Provides free short-term counselling/brief therapy and referrals to longer-term services for children, youth and families.
  • Parents/caregivers/guardians frustrated with child/youth behaviours
  • Children, youth and families experiencing significant change such as a new school, a new relationship, or a new community
  • Challenges for children and youth that impact how they feel about themselves
  • Issues for youth and/or their parents/caregivers relating to LGBT, including gender identity and sexual orientation
  • Relationship issues (friendships, dating, siblings)
  • Children and youth experiencing anxiety, depression or other mental health concerns
  • Strong feelings that are impacting behaviour at home, school or in the community
  • Youth experiencing difficulties at school or with parents
  • Youth involved in the justice system
  • Youth in transition
  • Youth who are at risk of homelessness
  • Grief and loss

Open 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on the respective days listed below. (Last walk-in is at 6:00 p.m.)

• Tuesday’s: Associated Youth Services of Peel (120 Matheson Blvd. E. #201; Mississauga)
• Wednesday’s: Peel Children’s Centre (85A Aventura Court, Mississauga)
• Thursday’s: Rapport Youth and Family Services (155 Clark Blvd., #11, Brampton)

Eligibility Requirements:

• Ages 0 - 18 years
• Live within the Peel Region
• Adolescents 12 - 17 may access the service independently

Associated Youth Services of Peel

Program Description:

• Offers programs and counselling services for children, youth and Families in individual and group settings.
• Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Program (DBT) for 15 - 18 yr olds who have experienced suicidal thoughts/self-harming behaviours; 15-18 year olds. (Intake referrals are only taken a few times per year.)
• Provides support for youth involved with the justice system.

Nexus Youth Services

Program Description:

• Community Counselling Services'
• Drop In Centre - inside the Mississauga Central Library, 301 Burnhamthorpe Road West on the second floor.
  • A safe environment to “chill” with other youth
  • Provides help finding a place to live, getting a job, learning new skills, returning to school
  • Offers a variety of group programs for leisure and to support youth to make new friends
  • Discuss a problem privately with a youth worker
  • Open Mon - Thurs (12 - 9 pm) and Fri (12 - 6 pm)

Eligibility Requirements:

• 14 - 24 years old
• Residents of the Peel Region

Rapport Youth and Family Services

Program Description:

Provides counselling and related confidential services by social workers, counsellors, and youth workers.

• student will need to call to book an intake appointment; they will be given a date and time to call back to complete the intake over the phone (it is up to the student to adhere to the appointment date and time).
• Once the intake is complete they will be placed on a wait-list which is approximately 12 weeks for individual counselling support; group counselling is often offered as wait times are shorter.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Resident of the Region of Peel
• 12 - 20 years old
• Experiencing personal, social or family problems.

• The Concurrent Youth Unit (CYU) is a full-service inpatient hospital program dedicated to the clinical care of youth, 14 to 18 years old, who require voluntary or involuntary inpatient treatment for "concurrent disorders": a moderate to severe addiction to substances and accompanying mental health challenges. This unit is the first of its kind in Canada and is a provincial service
