Healthy Smiles Program

Program Description:

Healthy Smiles Ontario is a government-funded dental program that provides free preventive, routine, and emergency dental services for children and youth 17 years old and under from low-income households.

The program includes regular visits to a licensed dental provider and covers the costs of treatment including:

• check-ups
• cleaning
• fillings (for a cavity)
• x-rays
• scaling
• tooth extraction
• urgent or emergency dental care (including treatment of a child’s toothache or tooth pain)

Cosmetic dentistry, including teeth whitening and braces, are not covered by the program.

Eligibility Criteria:

• All children up to age 18 from low income families have access to the Healthy Smiles Program through the Region of Peel for dental care.

• All families on Ontario Works and Ontario Disability have access to (limited) dental care

Program Description:

• Basic Dental Care for children and teens through the Ontario Healthy Smiles program, with service in English, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Urdu, Cantonese, Tagalog, Polish and Arabic.

• Be under 18 and receive assistance under:
  • Temporary Care Assistance
  • Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities
• Be under 18 and they or their family receive:
  • Ontario Works
  • Ontario Disability Support
• Be under 18 and from a low income family

Program Description:

• provides free emergency dental services for children and youth up to the age of 17 under the Healthy Smiles Ontario - Emergency and Essential Services Program.
• The program provides dental care for children and youth with emergency and/or essential dental conditions from families who would experience financial hardship if they had to pay for treatment.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Children and youth up to the age of 17 and seniors
• Applicants must be assessed for an emergency need and/or essential dental conditions, and must also attest to financial hardship to access emergency or essential care under the program.

West End Oral Health Clinic

Program Description:

The following services are provided by the West End Oral Health Clinic free of charge:

• General checkups
• Cleanings
• Fillings
• Extraction
• X-rays (as required)
• Oral self care instruction
• Referrals

The clinic is run by a volunteer dentist and by supervised dental hygienist and dental assistant students from the George Brown College School of Dental Health.

Eligibility Requirements:

• This clinic is intended for people with low income who have no coverage for dental care.
• Must be between 18 and 64 years of age
• Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) recipients are eligible for cleanings only, if required above your allowable coverage
• Ontario Works (OW) recipients are only eligible for a cleaning with the dental hygienist
• Must have no other extended health/dental insurance
