Program Description

• Ontario Works helps people who are in financial need.
• Financial assistance (supports with costs of basic needs--eg. food, clothing and shelter and health benefits for clients and their families)
• Employment assistance (helps in finding and preparing individuals for jobs--eg. includes workshops on resume writing and interviewing, job counselling, job-specific training, access to basic education to finish high school or improve language skills)
• clients, and in most cases any other adults in the household, must agree to participate in employment assistance activities in order to receive financial assistance.

Eligibility Requirements

• To be eligible for Ontario Works you must: live in Ontario, be in financial need; be willing to make reasonable efforts to find, prepare for and keep a job (unless you have specific circumstances that temporarily prevent you from doing so, such as an illness or caregiving responsibilities).

Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)

Program Description

The Ontario Disability Support Program Income Support helps people with disabilities who are in financial need pay for living expenses, like food and housing.

Eligibility Requirements

Eligibility for ODSP Income Support | Ministry of Community and Social Services

To qualify for ODSP income support, you must:

• be at least 18 years old
• be an Ontario resident
• be in financial need and
• meet the program’s definition of a person with a disability, or be a member of a prescribed class

Family Support Payments

Program Description

The Family Responsibility Office FRO collects, distributes and enforces court-ordered child and spousal support payments. It helps families in Ontario get the support payments they are entitled to by enforcing court-ordered support responsibilities.

Eligibility Requirements

This service supports individuals who are not receiving court-mandated child and/or spousal support payments.

Developmental Services Ontario (DSO)

Program Description

• Developmental Services Ontario (DSO) is the access point for adult developmental services funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) in Ontario. There are 9 DSO locations across the province.
• When you turn 18, your children’s developmental services such as Special Services at Home, Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities, and services through the Ontario Autism Program end. This means that you must apply through DSO to see if you are eligible to receive adult MCCSS funded supports available in your community.

• Clients must have a developmental disability
• Clients must live in Ontario

Eligibility Requirements

Singles with incomes up to $35,000, and families* with incomes up to $52,500, who have a simple tax situation can get free income tax preparation services including:

• CRA information about Ontario tax preparation clinics
• Online guides and information from the CRA
