Sophomore Forklift.MP4

CTHS Maritime Sophomore Class

Sophomores working in Forklift simulator, getting simulator time and learning about warehouse and shipping practices. This is great practice for their junior year when they will have an opportunity to operate a forklift.

Junior Forklift.MP4

CTHS Maritime Junior Class

Juniors could not operate our forklift today due to poor weather, so the forklift simulator provides great practice for Diego and Rosa. The forklift simulator allows all students the opportunity to experience warehouse activities.

Student Stations.MP4

CTHS Maritime Junior Class

Captain Gray and Rosa show the student stations right outside the main bridge. The student stations are directly connected to the main bridge allowing us to have up to 5 vessels in any simulation we may be working on.

In this great presentation by CTHS Maritime Sophomores, we see that Aids to Navigation are very important to ships on the water. The rule we use is (Red Right Returning) which means that as a ship is coming in from the ocean the red buoys are kept to the vessels starboard side (which means right side when facing the front or bow of the ship). Our classroom is set up like a ship returning from sea when facing the white board, which serves as the bow.

In this simulation the ship is outbound for sea so the Green Buoys must remain on the Starboard side of the vessel. The bridge crew will have a officer of the watch a lookout and a helmsmen (Guy who drives). They will share duties like manning the ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information System) and the Radar. The Helmsmen will watch speed and direction, as well as take commands from the Officer of the Watch.
