Auto Collision course includes knowledge of the processes, technologies, and materials used in the reconstruction of damaged vehicles. The course is designed to teach the concepts and theory of systems related to automotive collision repair and refinishing/painting. I-CAR COLLISION REPAIR - Non Structual ProLevel 1
A ProLevel 1 Non-Structural Technician will be provided knowledge on the following areas:
Select personal protection equipment, Identify vehicle construction materials, Practice workplace safety, Protect vehicle during repairs, Comply with environmental protection regulations, Identify hybrid vehicles, Complete the vehicle teardown, Remove and install lamps, Remove and install moveable glass, Remove and install steering system parts, Remove and install suspension system parts, Remove and install restraint system parts, Remove and install heating and cooling system parts, Remove and install brake system parts, Prepare panels for installation, Apply weld-through primer, Use adhesives, Manage vehicle teardown and the blueprinting process.
I-CAR REFINISHING ProLevel 1
A ProLevel 1 Refinish Technician will be provided knowledge on the following areas:
Practice workplace safety, Select personal protection equipment, Identify vehicle construction materials, Protect vehicle during repairs, Comply with environmental protection regulations, Prepare surface for refinishing, Apply masking, Set up spray gun, Maintain mixing room and related equipment.
Estimation
Students will learn how to write handwritten estimates and computerized estimates/appraisals using the CCC ONE total repair platform including frontal damage, unibody damage, light mechanical damage, rear damage and quarter panel replacement
Competition
Skills USA State Champ. 2019
Alfredo Rodriguez won the state Skills USA Collision Repair Contest in 2019. He advanced to Nationals Skills USA contest in Louisville, Kentucky . Alfredo won over $13,000 in scholarships from both District and State contest. He was able to take a week long trip paid for by PISD to compete.
Skills USA State Competition
Auto Collision students that advance to the Skills USA State competition take a four day trip to Corpus Christi, Texas. Where they compete for the title of state champion in either Collision Repair, Automotive Refinishing or Automotive Estimating.
Skills USA National Competiton
Auto Collision students that place 1st at the state level advance to the Skills USA National competition in Louisville, Kentucky. Students take a week long, all expenses paid trip to face against 49 other states and U.S territories.
Certifications
The I-CAR® Professional Development Program™ - Education Edition (PDP-EE) curriculum provides collision repair training for students. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will earn certificates documenting the industry-recognized I-CAR Platinum designation!
The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Entry-Level certification tests are designed to indicate a satisfactory level of practical knowledge-based readiness for the workforce in candidates seeking a career in the automotive service industry. ASE Entry-level certification is the first step in building career credentials as an automotive service professional.
S/P2 training is used by more than 225,000 students and employees every year. S/P2 safety and environmental industry-specific training is 100% online, ensuring students learn about workplace safety and compliance with OSHA and EPA—before they step into the work area.
The ASE Education Foundation is a non-profit organization that evaluates and accredits entry-level automotive technology education programs against standards developed by the automotive service industry. It also develops career-readiness education for students which fuse local partnerships, rigorous standard-based education, workplace experience, and mentorship together.
Internships
The collision repair program program at CTHS provides students with internship opportunities at various dealerships and shops in the area during the summer between their Junior and Senior year. Our goal is to give students hands-on experiences in a field that interests them.
