Auto Technology students will gain knowledge and skills in the repair, maintenance, and diagnosis of a vehicle systems. Students will reinforce, apply, and transfer academic knowledge to a real world setting. Students will have the opportunity to be placed in a ASE-Education Foundation Automotive Internship at a local business starting the summer of their senior year.

4 Year Course of Study

  • Freshman Year - ASE test prep in shop safety, tools and engine principles and repair

  • Sophomore Year - ASE test prep in electrical/electronic systems, batteries, starting and charging systems, computer diagnostics

  • Junior Year - ASE test prep in braking systems, steering suspension, advanced engine diagnosis

  • Senior Year - Career prep through hands on application in the shop setting or an Intern position at a local dealership

The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Entry-Level certification tests are designed to indicate a satisfactory level of practical knowledge-based readiness for the workforce in candidates seeking a career in the automotive service industry. ASE Entry-level certification is the first step in building career credentials as an automotive service professional.

S/P2 training is used by more than 225,000 students and employees every year. S/P2 safety and environmental industry-specific training is 100% online, ensuring students learn about workplace safety and compliance with OSHA and EPA—before they step into the work area.


The ASE Education Foundation is a non-profit organization that evaluates and accredits entry-level automotive technology education programs against standards developed by the automotive service industry. It also develops career-readiness education for students which fuse local partnerships, rigorous standard-based education, workplace experience, and mentorship together.

Alan Hughes

Alan Hughes is an ASE Master Certified Technician with more than 5 decades of experience. He began his Automotive career working at his fathers Rolls Royce repair shop. He struck out on his own as a Honda Technician at a Honda Dealership and eventually opened his own shop. Alan Hughes served as the Owner/Manager of CAP Automotive, that specialized in Honda Vehicles, for more than 30 years. Mr. Hughes has been a Honda instructor at the college level and has spent the last 10 years as a high school Automotive instructor.

Chris Wasson

ASE -EF Coordinator/Instructor

Chris Wasson is an ASE Master Certified Diesel Technician certified in Medium Heavy Duty Trucks, School Buses and Automobiles. Mr. Wasson began his career as a second generation Diesel Technician in 1991 when he graduated from San Jacinto College with a 3.77 GPA and attained his Certificate in Diesel Technology. Mr. Wasson worked as Diesel Technician until 2005 when he began his teaching career. Chris Wasson has served as the ASE-Education Foundation Coordinator for Pasadena ISD since 2007 and has help to establish the Automotive Technology program as one of the most successful programs in Texas and the nation.

James Jackson

James Jackson is an ASE Master Certified Technician in both Automobiles and Medium Heavy Duty Trucks. Mr. Jackson has worked as an Automotive Technician since 1984 where he worked for independent shops as well as Toyota Dealerships. Mr. Jackson began teaching in 1991 as a Ford and Toyota instructor at San Jacinto College. In 2004, Mr. Jackson joined Pasadena ISD as an Automotive Technology Instructor. He also serves as an Evaluation Team Leader for the ASE-Education Foundation assisting other Automotive Technology programs attaining ASE-EF accreditation.
