Students will gain advanced knowledge and skills needed to enter the workforce as an electrician/ instrument maintenance technician, prepare for a postsecondary degree in an specialized field of construction and maintenance management; or pursue an approved trade apprenticeship program.

Trainees will acquire the knowledge and skills in industrial safety, hand & power tools, electrical theory, National Electrical Code NEC®, interpret construction drawings, installation of electrical components & equipment, AC/DC systems, motor controls, raceway installation, cable tray & conductors, installation of electrical services, and electric lighting.

You could earn substantial pay and there is a high demand for skilled electrical & instrument technicians, for the construction & maintenance industry.

A Day in the Life...

What does an Electrician/Instrument Technician do?

Electricians install electrical systems in structures; they install wiring and other electrical components, such as circuit breaker panels, switches, and light fixtures, and they follow blueprints, the National Electrical Code® and state and local codes. Instrumentation technicians support process and control in manufacturing, design instrument control systems, install, calibrate, troubleshoot & repair level, flow and temperature instruments.

To prepare students for a career in the electrical field, CTHS offers a unique educational experience for high school students, the Electrical & Instrumentation training program. NCCER offers a comprehensive, electrical curriculum that complies with DOL time-based standards for apprenticeship. If you enjoy solving problems (troubleshooting), working with your hands, you will want to consider a career as an electrician/instrument technician.

Electrical Level 1

Electrical level 1 trainees will have an Orientation to the Electrical Trade and through hands-on skill activities learn about many different topics including, electrical safety, electric circuits, AC/DC theory, National Electric Code®, device boxes, hand bending, raceways & fittings, conductors & cables, electrical construction drawings, residential services, and test equipment.

Core Curriculum: Introductory Craft Skills

Trainees will learn the basics, core craft skills through hands-on activities; Basic Safety (Construction Site Safety Orientation), construction math, hand tools & power tools, construction drawings, basic rigging (elective), communication skills, employability skills and an introduction to material handling.

OSHA's Mission

With the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, Congress created the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to ensure safe and healthful working conditions for working men and women by setting and enforcing standards and by providing training, outreach, education and assistance.

CTHS Electrical & Instrument students will earn the OSHA 10 training certification course completion card.
