Developing an Appreciative Mindset in Students
By Revanth Kumar Guttena | Faculty Focus, 9/23
Appreciation can make a day, even change a life. Your willingness to put it all into words is all that is necessary – Margaret Cousins
An appreciative mindset refers to mental learning that encourages people to focus on the positive experiences, bonds, and goodness in their surroundings. It implicates recognizing and valuing strengths, opportunities, and successes in several facets of life rather than dwelling on the negatives. Cultivating this mindset is vital for students as it offers them a broader perspective and a sense of fairness, empowering them to confront challenges with resilience and optimism. Educators serve as powerful motivators in encouraging appreciative mindsets. Read more...

❖ Fall 2023 Sessions ❖
We have TWO events coming up
this semester for YOU!
Saturday, October 21, 2023
How to Prevent Cheating Whether it is Plagiarism or AI
10am - 12:30pm (lunch included)
Room Q120
Do you find yourself wondering as you grade, “Did a robot write this paper?” Have you read a student essay, and the writing style just switched from mediocre to brilliant in the span of a second? Or, maybe you just want some options to detect AI content or plagiarism without spending hours searching online? If any of this sounds like you, then join us to try three different tools for detecting the authenticity of student content:
Turnitin, a plagiarism and AI detecting tool;
Content At Scale AI detection (https://contentatscale.ai/ai-content-detector/), an online site that estimates how much of the content is AI generated;
Revision History, a Chrome app that records writers as they write on a shared Google doc.
Sonya Brieske and Lynn McClelland, the AI dynamic duo from the Adjunct Day of Learning, will demo these tools and provide an opportunity for you to try them.
Bring your computer!!
Instead of dinner and a movie, it’s a demo and lunch. Come and join us for this fun learning event. A 2-hour stipend will be paid for attendance and completion of a course questionnaire administered on the day of the event.
